Welcome to city repair

Join us in Re-Villaging! Spark YOUR Village in 2024

City Repair has been at the forefront of placemaking, pioneering projects like intersection murals and ecological landscaping that have painted our city with vibrancy and eco-friendly beauty. We believe in the power of communities to transform their urban spaces into vibrant hubs of creativity and community life.

This year we celebrated SPARK THE VILLAGE with eight days of placemaking, workshops, presentations, and community building for the annual Village Building Convergence. This free event week happens annually, and your kind donations are also very much appreciated in assisting with planning for summer community placemaking activites and T-Horse events.

We always welcome new volunteers, and we meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6pm - 8pm at 1421 SE Division, with a potluck on the first Wednesdays of each month. This city-wide barn raising is only possible through collective action, and building/renewing our core team of volunteers. Please consider joining us on Wednesdays to help build vibrant hubs of connection and expression!

City Repair facilitates artistic and ecologically-oriented placemaking through projects that honor the interconnection of human communities and the natural world. City Repair has accomplished many projects through a mostly volunteer staff and thousands of volunteer citizen activists. We provide support, resources, and opportunities to help diverse communities reclaim the culture, power, and joy that we all deserve.

Our Mission

City Repair Project collaborates with communities to cultivate and facilitate community-led artistic, equitable and ecologically-oriented placemaking. We work towards create a world where urban communities thrive with diverse ecologically and culturally regenerative shared participation. City Repair actively supports groups to create thriving community through the creative reclamation of public space.

Our Programs

City Repair has numerous programs throughout the year including our largest annual program, the Village Building Convergence. Beyond our own programs, we also support individuals/groups to nest their programs under our nonprofit umbrella if there's alignment.

In addition to relaunching the in-person Village Building Convergence (VBC) in 2023, we are currently building back our capacity to take on more place-making and place-justice initiatives. If you have projects or efforts underway and would like help or support, please let us know by reaching out to info@cityrepair.org. You can also visit our weekly meetings at the City Repair meetings. These are Wednesdays from 6pm - 8pm, at 1421 SE Division in Portland, OR. First Wednesdays are a social potluck. Please join us!

T-HORSE IS FINALLY BACK!

What’s a T-Horse, you say? It's a beautiful structural vehicle that serves tea and treats, with a cozy space under magical bamboo and sail wings for people to gather, relax, and participate in open discussions, visioning games, and participatory art. It's been seen at  weddings, Oregon Country Fair, and as many block parties as we can find, bringing neighbors together and creating great memories.

VILLAGE BUILDING CONVERGENCE (VBC)

VBC 24 was June 15th - June 22nd, 2024. We are excited about kicking off a series of workshops that can be considered a concise course in community design and project implementation, for anyone who would like to participate year-round. This course provides an overview on participatory design processes, including numerous additional and vital dimensions of design. These will include ecological resilence, permaculture, and urban agriculture systems; natural building and alternative systems, and placemaking. We will coach each participating community through their own iterative process until they are ready to implement during the culmination of the Village Building Convergence in June. Please reach out to info@cityrepair.org if you’re interested in hearing from our Placemaking team.
